Miami University of Ohio students in an environmental awareness class met with Mayor Prue Dana last week to discuss steps that the City of Oxford could take to increase the use of bicycles in the Butler County community, according to an article in The Oxford Press.
David Prytherch, assistant professor of geography, is quoted as saying "A lot of students found riding bikes was an enjoyable and convenient way to get Uptown. But a lot of students also had their concerns because there is no bicycle infrastructure in Oxford."
Mayor Dana noted, "If a lot of students decide to ride their bikes they could change the culture of campus overnight."
Imagine how many more bicycles we would see on the road if students at UC, NKU, Cincinnati State, Mt. St Joseph, Xavier, and Thomas More join their Miami colleagues and start pressing for change on their campuses and in Clifton, Corryville, Highland Heights, Crestview Hills, Avondale, and on the West Side.
