Moving Target

A recent article, Moving Target, in The New York Times, examines how bicyclists are jostling for space on city streets. Urban cycling remains a budding concept here in the U.S. where motorists have little experience in accommodating other road users. Meanwhile, bicyclists have minimal riding experience on city streets. Tom Vanderbilt, author of “Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do” (Knopf, 2008), cuts to the chase and points out "that because drivers do not expect to see cyclists, they don’t." Clearly, as the article points out, the learning curve has just begun.
