Funds for a new Citywide Bicycle Plan - the first since 1976 - were included in the budget for 2009/10 that was passed by Cincinnati City Council last week. And, in a sign that City Council wants to see quick action taken to start making improvements for bicyclists, $150,000 of those funds were earmarked specifically for implementing more bicycle projects in 2009.
A number of other projects important to bicyclists are also included in the budget: the Ohio River Trail - Downtown to Salem link, and many street improvement projects. We will provide a more detailed analysis once the ink dries and the final budget document is made available.
In the meantime, thank you if you sent an e-mail, joined us at City Hall in October, or filled out one of our green cards saying you support bicycling in the region.
You made the difference!

This is fantastic news. What would be really great is if we could some how get a dedicated allotment of bicycle infrastructure funds placed in the capital budget on a yearly basis. This would allow for maintenance, long-term planning, and increased implementation.
