Cincinnati Cyclist Comments on Google Maps

We joined the rest of the U.S. bicycling community in cheering the addition of "By Bicycle" to the options for requesting directions using Google Maps.

Cincinnati area commuter Caleb Miller was among those quoted in this article on Wired.Com giving Google Maps an "A for effort, B- for Execution". Here's what he found, according to the Wired article:

The experience of Caleb Miller from Cincinnati, Ohio summed up a lot of what we heard: Sure, he learned three new ways to get to work, but all three routes sent him down a major thoroughfare instead of a parallel road with less traffic. “Lesson learned is that I definitely need to scout the unknown sections of the routes before blindly assuming that they will give me the safest way to work,” he wrote.
Our advice is to go ahead and plan your route using Google maps, then stop by and discuss the best routes with us and other cyclists at one of our Commuter Stations that will be all over town every morning during Bike-to-Work Week, May 17 - May 21.
